OSTRAVA/STARNBERG, May 1, 2022
Evan Furness has claimed his maiden title on the ATP Challenger Tour by winning the 19th edition of the Ostra Group Open 2022 by Moneta in Ostrava. The French qualifier capped his dream run in the north-east of the Czech Republic with a 4-6, 7-6(6), 6-1 victory over Ryan Peniston from Great Britain in Sunday’s singles final.
The World No. 278 overcame a slow start and became more solid on his serve the longer the match lasted. Furness sent down four aces and won 75 per cent of his first-service points. The winner of eight singles title on the ITF Pro Circuit converted three of his eight break-point chances to prevail after two hours and 19 minutes.
