Two Italians and two South Americans advanced to the semi-finals of the Internazionali di Tennis Città di Vicenza. Brazilian veteran Daniel Dutra da Silva battled past Matteo Arnaldi of Italy 5-7, 7-5, 7-6(4) in the longest quarterfinal match on Friday.

The 33-year-old won four points less than his opponent but was wide awake in the crucial moments of the tie-break in the deciding set to secure victory in three hours and 21 minutes. Dutra da Silva, a winner of 24 singles titles on the ITF Pro Circuit, is still seeking his maiden triumph on the ATP Challenger Tour.

The World No. 273 will next take on Andrea Collarini, who emerged victorious from the all-Argentine affair with No. 2 seed Juan Manuel Cerundolo, 6-2, 6-3. Collarini converted five of his seven break-point chances to succeed after one hour and 21 minutes.

In the top half of the draw, Andrea Pellegrino knocked out World No. 119 Gianluca Mager, home favourite and top seed of the €45,730 clay-court event, 6-4, 4-6, 6-2. The 25-year-old Italian withstood nine aces and broke serve six times to advance after two hours and 13 minutes. Up next for Pellegrino will be local wild card entry Matteo Gigante, who edged past Andrea Arnaboldi of Italy 6-4, 7-5 in one hour and 45 minutes.
