VICENZA/STARNBERG, May 28, 2022
Two unseeded players will compete in Sunday’s singles final of the Internazionali di Tennis Città di Vicenza, as Andrea Collarini takes on Andrea Pellegrino for the title. Collarini defeated Brazilian veteran Daniel Dutra da Silva 6-2, 6-1 in the stage of the final four on Saturday.
The World No. 244 from Argentina saved all four break points he faced and converted five of his own eight break-point chances to prevail after one hour and seven minutes.
In other action, Pellegrino rallied past fellow Italian and wild card entry Matteo Gigante 4-6, 6-3, 6-3. The World No. 222 won 76 per cent of his first-service points and 58 per cent of the total points played to secure victory in one hour and 49 minutes.
In his second championship match of the season after Buenos Aires earlier this month, Collarini is bidding for his second ATP Challenger career title following his triumph in L’Aquila, Italy in August 2019. Pellegrino could also lift his second Challenger trophy after winning the Roma Garden Open last season. Collarini leads the pair’s head-to-head record 2-1. Pellerini, however, won their last meeting in Rome 2021.
Comesana/Darderi take doubles title
Later in the afternoon, Francisco Comesana of Argentina and Luciano Darderi captured the doubles title. The unseeded duo beat local wild card entries Matteo Gigante and Francesco Passaro 6-3, 7-6(4). The encounter lasted one hour and 25 minutes.
By winning their first team title, Comesana and Darderi split €2,670 in prize money and earned 80 ATP Doubles Ranking points.
