Musetti Triumphs At Forli Open

Lorenzo Musetti

FORLI/STARNBERG, June 5, 2022

#NextGenATP Italian Lorenzo Musetti was crowned champion of the Forli Open. The top seed of the €134,920 ATP Challenger Tour clay-court tournament rallied past fellow Italian Francesco Passaro, who battled through the qualifying, 2-6, 6-3, 6-2 in Sunday’s singles final.

Musetti overcame a bumpy start for the fourth consecutive time this week in Northern Italy and found his rhythm in the second set. The World No. 66 capitalized on four of his 19 break-point chances and won 52 per cent of the total points played to seal victory in two hours and seven minutes.

“The Forli crowd helped me to come back stronger. Passaro deserved the title, but it’s too good to win after a hard fight,” said Musetti. “The final was a battle right from the start but, to be honest, he deserved to win the tournament more than me. I had some problems to breathe in the first set, perhaps due to too much pressure this week, but I must say that winning with pain is even better.”

The 20-year-old Carrara native earned his second ATP Challenger career title following his maiden triumph here in Forli two years ago. Musetti pocketed €18,290 in prize money as well as 125 ATP Ranking points.
