Four Argentines have reached the semi-finals of the Challenger Corrientes led by top seed Juan Pablo Ficovich. The World No. 175 defeated fifth favourite Nick Hardt from the Dominican Republic 7-6(4), 6-4 on Friday at the Corrientes Tennis Club.
Ficovich, who captured his maiden Challenger crown in Sao Paulo last year, converted three of his six break-point chances to advance in one hour and 55 minutes. The Buenos Aires native will next take on Mariano Navone. The 21-year-old fought past Carlos Gomez-Herrera from Spain 7-6(4), 7-6(1) in two hours and 36 minutes. The World No. 519 will make his first appearance in a semi-final at Challenger level.
In the bottom half of the draw, No. 2 seed Francisco Comesana eased past Joao Lucas Reis da Silva of Brazil 6-1, 6-2. The World No. 285 sent down four aces and won 71 per cent of his first-service points to prevail after 66 minutes. Comesana will next play Roman Andres Burruchaga, who beat fellow Argentine Alejo Lorenzo Lingua Lavallan 6-3, 6-4 to reach the final four at an ATP Challenger Tour event for the first time. The encounter lasted one hour and 38 minutes.
