World No. 1 Daniil Medvedev continued his fine run of form on grass on Saturday at the Terra Wortmann Open in Halle, where the top seed powered past Germany’s Oscar Otte to reach his second consecutive ATP Tour final.

Medvedev, who finished runner-up to Tim van Rijthoven at the Libema Open in ‘s-Hertogenbosch last Sunday, capitalized on two of his three break-point chances and won 53 per cent of the total points played to prevail after one hour and 53 minutes.

“I didn’t play well in Halle last year, so I’m happy that this year I managed to raise my level,” said Medvedev, who fell to Jan-Lennard Struff in the opening round of last year’s ATP 500 event in Westphalia. “As I’ve always said, I love playing on grass, so I’m happy to show to myself that I’m capable of being in the final of one of the greatest tournaments, especially on grass, and of course I’m looking forward to tomorrow.”

Medvedev will face Hubert Hurkacz in Sunday’s championship match. The No. 5 seed from Poland battled past Australian wild card entry Nick Kyrgios 4-6, 7-6(2), 7-6(4). Hurkacz withstood 30 aces, fired 27 on his own and outpointed his rival 105-98 after two hours and four minutes.

Hurkacz and Medvedev will meet for the fifth time with their head-to-head record tied at 2-2. The only previous meeting on grass was won by the Polish in the fourth round at Wimbledon last year.
