Fabian Marozsan has reached his second semi-final on the ATP Challenger Tour at the Aspria Tennis Cup in Milan. The 22-year-old Hungarian qualifier, who advanced to the last four in Bergamo last year, edged past local wild card entry Matteo Gigante 7-6(5), 6-2 on Friday.
Marozsan capitalized on three of his five break-point chances to prevail after one hour and 25 minutes. The World No. 297 will next take on eighth-seeded Italian Francesco Passaro, who eased past Viktor Durasovic of Norway 6-1, 6-1 in 70 minutes.
In the top half of the draw, No. 1 seed Federico Coria booked his spot in the semis after No. 7 seed Luciano Darderi of Italy retired at the score of 6-2, 4-0 with a headache. The World No. 70 from Argentina will next take on fifth favourite Alexander Shevchenko of Russia, who beat Japanese lucky loser Shintaro Mochizuki 6-3, 6-1 in one hour and 17 minutes.
