Top seed Federico Coria and home favourite Francesco Passaro will compete in Sunday’s title match of the Aspria Tennis Cup in Milan. Coria defeated No. 5 seed Alexander Shevchenko from Russia 6-4, 6-1 in the semi-finals on Saturday.

The World No. 70 from Argentina converted six of his 10 break-point chances to advance in one hour and 24 minutes.

“It is definitely the first time I reach the final losing 10 games in the whole tournament,” said Coria, who finished runner-up to Gian Marco Moroni at the Aspria Harbour Club last year. “I am playing solid tennis. I hope to continue on this path and that tomorrow it will be the same, in order to obtain the title that I missed last year.”

Passaro, No. 8 seed of the €45,730 clay-court event, ended the run of Hungarian qualifier Fabian Marozsan. Passaro sent down five aces and won 67 per cent of his first-service points to seal a 7-5, 6-4 victory in one hour and 22 minutes.

Following three title wins on the ITF World Tennis Tour, the 21-year-old Italian is bidding for his first Challenger crown. Coria could hoist his fourth career trophy, his first of the season. The pair will meet for the first time.

Darderi/Romboli win back-to-back titles

In other action, Luciano Darderi of Italy and Fernando Romboli of Brazil earned the doubles title. The No. 4 seeds battled past second seeds Diego Hidalgo of Ecuador and Cristian Rodriguez from Venezuela 6-4, 2-6, 10-5. The encounter lasted one hour and 15 minutes.

By winning their second team title after last week’s triumph at the Emilia-Romagna Tennis Cup, Darderi and Romboli split €2,670 in prize money and collected 80 ATP Doubles Ranking points.
