Caroline Garcia captured her eighth career WTA Tour singles title, her first in three years, by winning the 2022 Bad Homburg Open presented by Engel & Voelkers. The 28-year-old from France came from a set and a break down against resurgent 2019 US Open winner Bianca Andreescu of Canada to secure a 6-7(5), 6-4, 6-4 victory in Saturday’s singles final.
Garcia sent down four aces, won 74 per cent of her first-service points and 54 per cent of the total points played to prevail after two hours and 42 minutes.

“I’ve had a fantastic week here. It was a great pleasure to play this tournament,” the World No. 75 said. “This win means much to me. You never know how long you’ll have to wait for the next one.”
Garcia battled her way through the bottom half of the draw of the WTA 250 event with wins over Aliaksandra Sasnovich of Belarus, Russian qualifier Kamilla Rakhimova, Germany’s Sabine Lisicki and her compatriot Alize Cornet.
Garcia, who reached a career-high ranking of World No. 4 in September 2018, now owns three grass-court singles titles, having previously triumphed in Mallorca in 2016 and in Nottingham in 2019.
Both Bad Homburg finalists now turn their attention to Wimbledon. Garcia will play her first round match against British wild card entry Yuriko Miyazaki on Monday, while Andreescu opens against US-American qualifier Emina Bektas on Tuesday.
