CAMPINAS/STARNBERG, September 19, 2022
The ATP Challenger Tour will return to Brazil next month for the 12th edition of the Campeonato Internacional De Tenis. The $53,120 clay-court tournament will be held at the Sociedade Hipica de Campinas from October 3 to 9 and is the longest-running ATP Challenger Tour event in the country. The Campinas Challenger is an integral part of the year-end South American swing, which also features events in Argentina, Peru, Chile, Ecuador and Uruguay. Guilherme Clezar is the lone Brazilian champion on home soil, prevailing in 2013.
This year’s entry list is led by World No. 97 Daniel Altmaier. The 24-year-old German is coached by Argentine Francisco Yunis and is seeking his fifth Challenger career crown. Altmaier will be joined by his compatriot Yannick Hanfmann as well as a strong South American contingent. 2016 champion Facundo Bagnis of Argentina and 2017 winner Gastao Elias of Portugal will also return to Brazil’s Southeast Region. This year’s champion will earn 80 ATP Ranking points.
