The Credit One Charleston Open has announced the addition of two current Top 10 players, World No. 5 Jessica Pegula of the United States and World No. 8 Paula Badosa of Spain, to its talented lineup for next year’s tournament at the newly renovated Credit One Stadium.
The Credit One Charleston Open, which celebrated its 50th anniversary this year, is the largest women’s-only tennis tournament in North America and annually kicks off the spring clay season on the WTA Hologic Tour. Next year’s event on Daniel Island in Charleston is scheduled from April 1-9.
Pegula and Badosa join past Charleston champions Belinda Bencic of Switzerland and Madison Keys and Sloane Stephens, both from the United States in the growing field for next year’s WTA 500 event.

“Having two Top 10 players join our field six months before our tournament showcases our dedication to bringing the world’s best competitors to Charleston,” Bob Moran, Tournament Director of the Credit One Charleston Open and President of Charleston Tennis LLC, said in a statement. “Jessie and Paula have had exception 2022 seasons and both are at the top of their game. We are off to a strong start for our 2023 tournament and have more exciting player announcements on the horizon.”
Pegula is one of two players – the other is Coco Gauff – who are currently ranked in the Top 10 in both singles and doubles. She reached three major singles quarterfinals this season, at the Australian Open, French Open and US Open, as well as the doubles final at Roland-Garros. Pegula recently qualified for the season-ending WTA Finals in both singles and doubles. She will be appearing for the fifth time at Charleston.
“Charleston is like a second home to me and I can’t wait to be back in April to play the Credit One Charleston Open again,” Pegula said in a statement. “I am really proud of the tennis that I’m playing right now and it woul be amazing to win a title ion a city that holds such a special place in my heart.”

Meanwhile, Badosa has won three WTA singles titles, including Indian Wells last year. She was a 2021 French Open quarterfinalist and earlier this year rose to No. 2 in the WTA Rankings.
“Reaching the semifinals in Charleston in 2021 really propelled my career forward,” Badosa said in a statement. “I’ve had strong back-to-back seasons and have had great results each year in Charleston. After reaching the semis and quarterfinals, I would love to win there in 2023.”

The nine-day Credit One Charleston Open features a singles draw of 56 players, a qualifying draw of 32 players and a doubles draw of 16 players. The event traditionally draws more than 90,000 fans on Daniel Island.
