HAMBURG, October 20, 2022
Frenchman Gregoire Barrere leads the quarterfinals line-up of the Hamburg Ladies & Gents Cup ATP Challenger 80 event. The top seed of the €45,730 hard-court tournament defeated 19-year-old German Max Rehberg, who played his first Challenger final at last week’s Wolffkran Open in Ismaning, 6-2, 6-1 on Thursday.
Barrere capitalized on five of his nine break-point chances to advance in one hour and two minutes. The World No. 111 will next take on fifth-seeded Swiss Henri Laaksonen, who fought past Benjamin Hassan of Lebanon 6-4, 3-6, 7-6(6) in two hours and 22 minutes.
“It could have happening both ways,” said Laaksonen. “I played well in the end of the first set and started well in the second. I couldn’t take a double break in the second and then he started to play better. It was a good quality match. I was playing better and better. The outcome just depended on one or two points.”
In other action, German Julian Lenz edged past fellow qualifier Evgeny Donskoy of Russia 6-2, 6-7(3), 7-5 in two hours and 12 minutes. Up next for Lenz will be Dutch veteran Robin Haase, who rallied from a set down to outlast Frederico Ferreira Silva from Portugal 6-7(4), 6-4, 7-6(4). The encounter lasted two hours and 43 minutes.
