Daniel Altmaier and Tomas Martin Etcheverry will compete in Sunday’s singles final of the Lima 2 Challenger hosted by the Tennis Club Las Terrazas Miraflores. Altmaier edged out top seed Federico Coria of Argentina 6-3, 6-3 in the stage of the last four on Saturday.
The fourth-seeded German sent down five aces and won 82 per cent of his first-service points to seal victory in one hour and 21 minutes.
Later in the day, Etcheverry fought past fellow Argentine and lucky loser Roman Andres Burruchaga 6-2, 3-6, 6-3. The No. 2 seed from La Plata broke his rival’s serve four times and won 53 per cent of the total points played to prevail after two hours and 36 minutes.
World No. 106 Altmaier is bidding for his fifth career crown on the ATP Challenger Tour, his second of the season following his triumph on home soil at the Neckarcup in Heilbronn. Etcheverry could lift his fourth trophy. The World No. 89 was successful in Concepcion, Chile earlier in the year. The pair will meet for the first time.
De Jong/Houkes succeed in doubles
In other action, Jesper de Jong and Max Houkes captured the doubles title. The Dutch tandem battled past the second-seeded all-Argentine combination of Guido Andreozzi and Guillermo Duran 7-6(6), 3-6, 12-10 in one hour and 34 minutes.
By winning their first team title, de Jong and Houkes split $3,100 in prize money and earned 80 ATP Doubles Ranking points.
