Federico Coria leads the quarterfinals line-up of the XVIII Challenger Ciudad de Guayaquil Copa Banco Guayaquil presentado por CNT. The top seed of the $53,120 clay-court event in Ecuador rallied from a set down to outlast fellow Argentine Facundo Diaz Acosta 3-6, 6-1, 7-6(2) on Thursday.

Coria, ranked World No. 71, capitalized on four of his 11 break-point chances to prevail after two hours and 30 minutes.

“I am very happy with this win,” said Coria. “Facu is an Argentine player who has been progressing a lot, one of the best talents we have and he has a very good future ahead of him because he is surrounded by very capable people. I am very happy to be able to beat him. The end of the match was exciting for the spectators, but not for me. For me, it was an ordeal and I am very happy to be able to stay alive here in Guayaquil, which is a tournament that I like very much.”

The 30-year-old Rosario native, who is bidding for his second Challenger trophy of the season following his triumph in Milan, Italy in June, will next take on Matheu Pucinelli de Almeida. The World No. 214 emerged victorious from the all-Brazilian affair with No. 8 seed Felipe Meligeni Alves, winning 6-3, 6-4 in one hour and 37 minutes.
