Following his triumph in Lima, Peru last week, Daniel Altmaier clinched his second consecutive title on the ATP Challenger Tour by lifting the trophy of the XVIII Challenger Ciudad de Guayaquil Copa Banco Guayaquil presentado por CNT. The No. 3 seed of the $53,120 clay-court event in Ecuador beat top favourite Federico Coria from Argentina 6-2, 6-4 in Sunday’s singles final.

Altmaier sent down five aces, won 87 per cent of his first-service points and 58 per cent of the total points played to prevail after one hour and 29 minutes.

“It was a very positive week for me. I finished today with the title and that makes me very happy. We played (against Coria) last week and I felt quite comfortable, I had a good plan to play until the last point so I was always fighting, playing well until I won,” said Altmaier.

For him and his coaching staff, led by the former World No. 8 Alberto Mancini of Argentina, the end of the season is ideal and on his horizon is to return to the Top 50 in the world.

“Now I’m going to Montevideo and I think it’s the last week of my season. I speak Spanish well because of my Mexican girlfriend, she helps me a lot and also speaking with my team,” declared the Kempen-born in perfect Spanish.
