HALLE/WESTPHALIA, May 16, 2023
Andrey Rublev of Russia and Austria’s Dominic Thiem will compete in this year’s 30th edition of the Terra Wortmann Open. This was announced by the organizers of the ATP 500 grass-court event on Tuesday. The tournament will be held from June 17 to 25 in Halle/Westphalia, Germany.
Rublev is not only an absolute crowd favorite on the ATP Tour, but has also established himself in the Top 10 of the world rankings since the end of 2020. This year, the man with the punishing groundstrokes won his first ATP Masters 1000 tournament in Monte Carlo, his 13th career title overall. Shortly afterwards, he also triumphed in doubles in Madrid alongside his compatriot and friend Karen Khachanov.
Rublev has also been very successful in East Westphalia. In 2021, he managed to reach the final, but lost to Ugo Humbert from France. “Halle is always firmly scheduled in my tournament calendar, I feel extremely comfortable here. The organization and the atmosphere are fantastic,” said Rublev.
Former Grand-Slam champion Thiem will also return to Halle. The 2020 US Open winner and long-time top 10 player will make his fifth appearance at the ATP 500 event. “I’m looking forward to playing at one of my absolute favorite tournaments on the tour,” said World No. 96 Thiem, whose best result in Halle was a semi-final appearance in 2016 (defeat to Florian Mayer).
