Novak Djokovic defeated fourth-seeded Casper Ruud of Norway 7-6(1), 6-3, 7-5 in Sunday’s French Open singles final to claim a record 23rd Grand Slam title, his third crown at Roland Garros.

“Obviously a Grand Slam is a Grand Slam,” said Djokovic at the trophy ceremony, wearing a jacket bearing the number 23. “The four biggest tournaments that we have in our sport. Every single player dreams of being on this stage and winning the trophy at least once in their career. I’m beyond fortunate in my life to win 23 times, it’s an incredible feeling.”
Concluding his speech, Djokovic said: “I was a seven-year-old dreaming of winning Wimbledon one day. I’m beyond grateful and blessed to be standing here with so many achievements.
“I felt I had the power to create my own destiny. I want to send a message out there to every young person. If you want a better future, you’ll create it.”
