STARNBERG, June 12, 2023
The grass season commences this week on the ATP Tour, with ATP 250 events held in ‘s-Hertogenbosch and Stuttgart.
Top seed Stefanos Tsitsipas of Greece, US-American Taylor Fritz and defending champion Matteo Berrettini from Italy compete at the BOSS OPEN in Germany. Australia’s enfant terrible Nick Kyrgios is also in action at the grass-court event as he returns to Tour for the first time this season.
Tsitsipas will start his title bid against the winner of the encounter between French veteran Richard Gasquet and US-American qualifier Christopher Eubanks. Fritz leads the bottom half of the draw and will play either Corentin Moutet of France or Aslan Karatsev from Russia in his second-round match.
Berrettini will step into action Monday taking on his compatriot Lorenzo Sonego in the first round.
“It is special here. Even when I first came here, it felt like I was playing in Italy,” said Berrettini after his arrival in Stuttgart. “I have also heard that from other compatriots. I feel at home in Stuttgart. I hope a lot of people come to watch my matches. I love coming back here every year.”
