PERUGIA/STARNBERG, June 16, 2023
Pedro Cachin leads the quarterfinals line-up of the Internazionali di Tennis Città di Perugia | G.I.Ma. Tennis Cup. The top seed of the ATP Challenger Tour 125 clay-court tournament benefited from the retirement of fellow Argentine Andrea Collarini in his quarterfinal match on Thursday.
Cachin was leading 6-1, 3-1 when Collarini was forced to stop playing due to a back injury.
“Until Andrea’s retirement I played well, but of course he wasn’t at his best and I’m sorry. The crowd was fantastic and I thank them, it’s always a pleasure for me to play here in Umbria,” the World No. 71 said.
After last year’s triumph in Italy at the ATP Challenger in Todi, Cachin cracked the Top 100 followed by reaching the third round of the US Open and earning a career-high ranking of World No. 54.
“I stayed the same, but my life has changed. I realized a dream and was able to invest in my team,” said Cachin, who will next take on Nerman Fatic of Bosnia and Herzegovina.
