Grenier Faces Ficovich For Pozoblanco Challenger Title

Hugo Grenier and Juan Pablo Ficovich have reached the singles final of the Open Ciudad Pozoblanco. Grenier, top seed of the ATP Challenger Tour 75 hard-court tournament in southern Spain, fought past home favourite Alejandro Moro Canas 6-4, 3-6, 6-1 in the stage of the last four on Saturday.

The World No. 135 from France withstood nine aces and broke his opponent’s serve three times to secure victory in two hours and 13 minutes.

Ficovich defeated Frenchman Terence Atmane 6-4, 6-4. The 26-year-old from Argentina saved all three break points he faced and capitalized on two of his own three break-point chances to prevail after one hour and 22 minutes.

Grenier is bidding for his fifth Challenger career crown, his second of the season following his triumph in Les Franqueses de Valles, Spain in March. Ficovich could lift his third trophy on the ATP Challenger Tour, his first of 2023. The pair will meet for the first time.

Nam/Song triumph in doubles

In other action, Koreans Jisung Nam and Minkyu Song captured the doubles title. The top seeds rallied past second favourites Luke Johnson from Great Britain and Benjamin Lock of Zimbabwe 2-6, 6-4, 10-8 in the championship match. The encounter lasted one hour and 31 minutes.

By winning their second team title on the Challenger Circuit after Nonthaburi in Thailand, Nam and Song split € 4,250 in prize money and earned 75 ATP Doubles Ranking points.
