De Jong Triumphs At Lotto Kozerki Open

Dutch youngster Jesper de Jong has clinched the title of the inaugural Lotto Kozerki Open held at the Akademia Tenisowa Tenis Kozerki in Grodzisk Mazowiecki, a town in central Poland with about 30,000 inhabitants situated 30 kilometres southwest of Warsaw. The No. 5 seed of the € 118,000 ATP Challenger Tour hard-court tournament defeated Benjamin Hassan of Lebanon 6-3, 6-3 in Saturday’s singles final.

De Jong battled his way through the bottom half of the draw with wins over Santiago Rodriguez Taverna of Argentina, British alternate Charles Broom, Maks Kasnikowski from Poland and sixth-seeded Swede Elias Ymer.

The 23-year-old from Haarlem broke Hassan’s serve six times and won 56 per cent of the total points played to secure victory in one hour and 31 minutes.

By winning his second ATP Challenger career title following his maiden triumph in Almaty, Kazakhstan two years ago, de Jong pocketed €16,020 in prize money as well as 100 ATP Ranking points.

In other action, Theo Arribage and Luca Sanchez of France defeated the all-Indian combination of Anirudh Chandrasek and Vijay Sundar Prashanth 6-4, 6-4 to clinch the doubles title. The encounter lasted one hour and 16 minutes.
