VIENNA, August 28, 2023

Starting today, the tennis world’s attention turns to New York, where the last Grand Slam tournament of the year, the US Open, will take place over the next two weeks. From October 21 to 29, the ATP Tour will return to Vienna, Austria for the 2023 Erste Bank Open.

With Stefanos Tsitsipas (ATP-7), 2020 Vienna winner Andrey Rublev (ATP-8), charismatic US-American Frances Tiafoe (ATP-10), defending champion Daniil Medvedev (ATP-3) and Italian youngster Jannik Sinner (ATP-6), five Top-10 stars will be part of the line-up of the ATP 500 tournament, which offers a prize money of 2,559,790 Euros. Karen Khachanov (ATP-11) has also recently confirmed his participation in Vienna, as well as the 2021 Vienna champion Alexander Zverev (ATP-12).

The trio of Tsitsipas, Rublev, and Tiafoe have already proven their ability to win tournaments this season. Tsitsipas triumphed in Los Cabos (Mexico), Rublev secured titles at the ATP Masters 1000 tournaments in Monte Carlo and Bastad (Sweden), and Tiafoe celebrated victories in Houston (USA) and at the BOSS OPEN in Stuttgart (Germany). Speaking of Tiafoe, memories of the 2021 Erste Bank Open come to mind when the US-American stormed into the final after successfully navigating through the qualifying rounds.

We are eagerly watching New York to see if any of the Vienna starters can achieve a major victory, and if we might welcome a reigning US Open champion to Vienna this year. We’re certainly keeping our fingers crossed. It’s pleasing to see the Erste Bank Open continuing to develop positively in all areas. We’re also excited to once again spotlight Austria in the international sports arena with the sport of tennis,” explains Tournament Director Herwig Straka. Last year, the Erste Bank Open surpassed the milestone of 70,000 visitors for the first time.
