CASSIS/STARNBERG, September 11, 2023
Mattia Bellucci captured his first title of the season by winning the fifth edition of the Cassis Open Provence by Cabesto. After Enzo Couacaud (2018), Jo-Wilfried Tsonga (2019), Benjamin Bonzi (2021) and Hugo Grenier (2022), the 22-year-old Italian has become the first winner of the ATP Challenger Tour tournament, who is not from France.
Bellucci defeated fourth favourite Tomas Machac from the Czech Republic 6-3, 6-4 after one hour and 24 minutes in Sunday’s singles final. The No. 7 seed of the €73,000 hard-court event in Southern France battled his way to the championship match with wins in the bottom half of the draw over Indian qualifier Ramkumar Ramanathan, Maximilian Neuchrist from Austria, Frenchman Lucas Poullain and Liam Broady of Great Britain.
