Italy have joined defending champion Canada in advancing from Group A of the Davis Cup Finals to book their ticket for the last 8 tournament in Malaga.
Matteo Arnaldi won the opening singles rubber against Leo Borg 6-4, 6-3 at Bologna’s Unipol Arena, where Italy beat Sweden 2-1. The Italians needed to win only one match to be sure of finishing ahead of Chile. Later in the afternoon, Lorenzo Sonego sealed the tie for Italy with a 6-4, 6-4 result against Elias Ymer.

“It was an amazing week for sure. I played more than I expected for sure from the first doubles. But from one point I think I deserved it, I was playing pretty good, I was coming from New York where I played the best tournament of my life. I had a good feeling and I had enough confidence in myself,” said Arnaldi,
Italy have now made it through to the quarterfinals for a fifth time since 2016. The draw for the Davis Cup final 8 tournament will take place on Tuesday September 19 in London at 11:00am local time.
