TAVIRA/STARNBERG, October 23, 2023
Sebastian Fanselow of Germany captured the title of the 2nd Tavira Mens Open by Crédito Agrícola. The No. 4 seed of the ITF World Tennis Tour M25 tournament held at the Pedras Tennis & Padel Academy in Tavira, Portugal defeated home favourite and last week’s champion Henrique Rocha in Monday’s singles final.
Fanselow, who has been residing in Portugal for three years, won 81 per cent of his first-service points, 58 per cent on his second serve, and saved four of the five break points he faced, winning 6-2, 6-3 in one hour and 12 minutes.
“It was a tiring week, not only because of the matches I played, two of them in the third set, but also because of this ‘in-and-out’ of the court,” said Rocha. “It wasn’t easy, mentally exhausting, adding to last week when I played many singles and doubles matches. Today I could have been better, but Sebastian also played very well today.”
The 31-year-old Fanselow lifted his 12th career trophy on the ITF Circuit, his first of the season.
