PLANTATION, Fla., December 11, 2023 (USTA Press Release)
Great Britain’s Hannah Klugman won the Orange Bowl girls’ 18s singles title on Sunday, defeating American Tyra Grant (15; Bordighera, Italy) in straight sets.
At 14 years old, the fifth-seeded Klugman became the youngest champion since Coco Gauff won the title in 2018, also at the age of 14 (Gauff was a month younger at the time of her title). Klugman is the first British player to take home the prestigious girls’ 18s singles title.
For Klugman, who reached the singles quarterfinals of the US Open junior tournament this summer, this victory marks her third ITF junior title of the year. She also notably qualified for the main draw of the ITF World Tennis Tour W100 event in Shrewsbury, England, last month, unseating Gauff as the youngest player to accomplish the feat.
Grant, the tournament’s No. 6 seed, partnered with fellow American Iva Jovic (16; Torrance, Calif.) to win the girls’ 18s doubles title on Saturday, becoming the first team to win back-to-back Orange Bowl 18s doubles titles since 1993 (the first year that doubles records were kept).
In the boys’ 18s singles final, Danil Panarin of Russia bested Romania’s Luca Preda in straight sets in a matchup of two unseeded players.
