TENERIFE/STARNBERG, December 24, 2023
Professional tennis will return to Tenerife. After hosting a WTA Tour 250 event and ATP Challenger tournaments in 2021 and 2023, the largest and most populous island of the Canary Islands is back in the spotlight and is doing so by hosting no less than three events on the early 2024 season calendar.
The tournaments, organized by MEF Tennis Events, will be played on outdoor hard courts of the stunning Abama Tennis Academy in Guía de Isora, a municipality in the western part of the island. The Tenerife Challenger 1 will be held from January 14-21 and offers a total prize money of €120,950. The champion will receive 100 ATP Ranking points. Two back-to-back ATP Challenger Tour 75 events are scheduled for February 18-25 and February 26 to March 3.

Tenerife is a popular location for ATP Challenger Tour events due to its beautiful setting and favorable conditions for tennis. Having three tournaments scheduled there suggests a strong commitment to hosting and promoting professional tennis on the island. These Challenger events often serve as crucial platforms for up-and-coming players to showcase their talents and earn valuable ranking points.
Alexander Shevchenko of Russia as well as Italians Matteo Arnaldi and Matteo Gigante were the three champions crowned in 2023. Next year’s event will again be an opportunity for the local tennis community to engage with high-quality matches and witness the development of future tennis stars.
