Two additional Grand Slam champions, Victoria Azarenka of Belarus and Barbora Krejcikova of the Czech Republic, have entered the player field for next month’s WTA 500 Credit One Charleston Open in Charleston, S.C., the largest women’s-only professional tennis tournament in North America.
With the addition of the two-time Australian Open champion Azarenka and 2021 Roland Garros titlist Krejcikova, there are now five Grand Slam champions in the player field, four Top 10 players and five former Charleston champions coming to the green clay of Daniel Island for the 2024 edition of the tournament, March 30 to April 7.
The 30th-ranked Azarenka, a former No. 1 who won back-to-back Australian Open titles in 2012-13, and Krejcikova, an 11-time Grand Slam champion (singles, doubles, mixed doubles combined) who is currently ranked No. 21, will join fellow major champions Jelena Ostapenko of Latvia, and Sloane Stephens and Sofia Kenin, both of the United States.
The Credit One Charleston Open, which takes place in the state-of-the-art Credit One Stadium, was recently named the WTA 500 Tournament of the Year for the second straight season.
“I returned to Charleston for the first time in more than 10 years last April and was reminded why I love this tournament,” said Azarenka, 34, in a statement. “I really enjoyed the city and the energy from the crowd in the stadium. I’m looking forward to being back next month.”

Krejcikova, 28, who will compete in the main draw for the first time, said in a statement: “I’m excited to start my clay season this year in Charleston, where I’ll be in the main draw for the first time. Clay is my favorite playing surface and I’ve heard nothing but great things from fellow players on tour about the new stadium and how the event has. Grown since I last played there.”
