Hamburg Open: Zverev Starts Title Defence On Tuesday

HAMBURG/STARNBERG, July 3, 2024

Germany’s top tennis player returns to his hometown this year as the defending champion at the Hamburg Open scheduled for July 13 to 21. The 27-year-old, who captured his his first-ever title in his hometown last year by defeating Serbian Laslo Djere in the final, will open his title defence on Tuesday, July 16. This was announced by the organizers of the ATP 500 clay-court event.

Zverev is currently in outstanding form. A few weeks ago, the World No. 4 reached the final of the French Open at Roland-Garros finishing runner-up to Carlos Alcaraz. At Wimbledon, where the third Grand Slam tournament of the year is currently taking place, the Hamburg native won his first-round match on Tuesday against Spain’s Roberto Carballes Baena in straight sets.

The qualifying of the Hamburg Open will take place over the weekend (July 13/14). Main draw matches will begin on Monday. In addition to Zverev, Holger Rune of Denmark, 2022 Hamburg champion Lorenzo Musetti of Italy and Sebastian Baez from Argentina will be part of the line-up.
