MONTREAL, July 6, 2024 (Tennis Canada Press Release)

Tennis Canada announced the list of players who will compete in the 2024 Granby National Bank Championships, held at Tennis St-Luc in Granby, Quebec. Running from July 15 to 21, the tournament brings together some of the top talent on both the men’s and women’s circuits, featuring an ITF World Tennis Tour W60 event and an ATP Challenger Tour 75.

“It’s always a pleasure to welcome tennis to Granby as the North American summer hardcourt season gets underway,” said Francis Milloy, Tournament Director of the women’s event. “With a strong field of players, including Canadians in both the main draw and qualifiers, we’re poised for an exciting week ahead for all tennis fans in the region.”

On the men’s side, the top seed will be Australian Adam Walton, the world No. 101, who just earned his first Grand Slam main-draw victory over Argentina’s Federico Coria in the opening round of Wimbledon. The Aussie already has two titles on the season, at the Taipei Challenger and the Burnie 2 Challenger. American J.J. Wolf, who reached a career-high ranking of world No. 39 last season following a fourthround appearance at the Australian Open, will be the tournament No. 2 seed.

Defending champion and world No. 169 Alexis Galarneau will be returning to Granby, where he defeated Australia’s Philip Sekulic in the 2023 championship match to win the first ATP Challenger crown of his career. The Laval native became the third Canadian to win the Granby tournament in its last four editions, joining Gabriel Diallo and Peter Polansky. Canada’s Vasek Pospisil (No. 626), who received a wild card, and Liam Draxl (No. 258) will also be taking part in the main draw.

“Winning the Granby tournament last year was an unforgettable moment for me,” said Galarneau. “It motivated me to set my sights even higher this year, and I can’t wait to get back on the court to defend my title here in front of my friends, family, and the fans in Granby.”

Leading the tournament as the top seed in the women’s draw is American Usue Maitane Arconada, who is using her protected ranking of 173rd in the world. She’s joined by world No. 193 Destanee Aiava of Australia, and Americans Maria Mateas, world No. 254, and Victoria Hu, 285th in the world. Hu, 22, is playing some of the best tennis of her young career, recently winning back-to-back W35 events in Santo Domingo, Dominican Republic.

Stacey Fung (No. 319), Carson Branstine (No. 337), and wild card recipients Bianca Jolie Fernandez (No. 896) and Ariana Arseneault will represent Canada in the main draw. Last month, Branstine won the biggest title of her career at the W75 in Sumter, South Carolina, beating American Sophie Chang 7-6(6), 6-7(6), 6-1 in the final. Prior to the title match, she defeated the event’s top seed, Mateas, who will be looking for her revenge in Granby.
