BASTAD, July 15, 2024

Martina Trevisan clinched the title of the Nordea Open in Bastad, Sweden by overcoming unseeded Ann Li from the United States 6-2, 6-2 in Sunday’s final.

Seventh-seeded Trevisan, who advanced to the Roland Garros semifinals in 2022 and the quarterfinals in 2020, showcased her exceptional clay-court prowess in Bastad. This triumph came after her first-round exit against twelfth seed Madison Keys on the grass courts of Wimbledon.

Former Top 20 player Trevisan needed just 70 minutes to defeat Li, securing her first WTA Tour 125 title. The 30-year-old Italian dominated the final, winning 73 per cent of her first-service points and never facing a break point throughout the match.

Trevisan’s path to the title was not without challenges. In the first round, she was in danger of an early exit, trailing Astra Sharma 7-5, 4-0. However, she staged a remarkable comeback to win that match in three hours. This victory helped her rise 12 spots to No. 77 in the updated rankings.

In doubles, the Bastad title was claimed by the fourth-seeded pair Peangtarn Plipuech of Thailand and Tsao Chia Yi of Chinese Taipei. They overcame unseeded Argentines Maria Lourdes Carle and Julia Riera with a 7-5, 6-3 victory in the final. This marks Plipuech’s third career WTA 125 doubles career title and Tsao’s first.
