PARIS/STARNBERG, July 28, 2024
Rafael Nadal recorded a hard-fought win over Hungary’s Marton Fucsovics to set up a 60th Tour-level meeting with Novak Djokovic in the men’s singles second round at Paris 2024 Olympics on Monday, before Coco Gauff and Alexander Zverev cruised to victory in the evening session on Court Philippe Chatrier.
Elsewhere there were singles victories for Barbora Krejcikova, Jessica Pegula and Casper Ruud, while Andy Murray prolonged his tennis career by saving five match points alongside doubles partner Dan Evans, defeating Taro Daniel and Kei Nishikori in a match tiebreak.
“It shows how much people are supporting tennis being in the Olympics. They’re coming out to support the doubles and create an atmosphere,” said Murray. “That doesn’t happen every week on the Tour, it doesn’t happen at the Grand Slams. I loved it and both of us feed off that.”
