Daniel Rincon achieved a significant career milestone on Sunday at the Tampere Open in Finland, where the 21-year-old Spaniard secured his first ATP Challenger Tour career title.
Rincon joins an elite group of former US Open junior champions who have won a Challenger title in the past decade, including Taylor Fritz, Felix Auger-Aliassime, Wu Yibing, and Thiago Seyboth Wild. The 21-year-old Avila native, a 2021 graduate of the Rafa Nadal Academy, triumphed over fourth seed Calvin Hemery of France with a 6-1, 7-6(4) victory in Sunday’s singles final.
“It feels unbelievable, as I came here without too many expectations. I haven’t had my best year so far and I came just trying to do my best. I played well here and that gave me confidence,” Rincon said.
As a result of his title run, the left-handed Rincon has risen to a career-high World No. 164 in the PIF ATP Rankings. He is the youngest Spanish Challenger champion since Pablo Llamas Ruiz achieved the feat at the Open Castilla y Leon Villa de El Espinar in Segovia last July.
