Zheng Qinwen became the first player to defeat Iga Swiatek at Roland Garros in Paris in more than three years to advance to the Paris 2024 Olympic Tennis Event women’s singles final. She will face Donna Vekic, who beat Anna Karolina Schmiedlova, for gold on Saturday.

“I finally showed I could beat the world No. 1 in her best surface, in the Roland Garros court,” said Zheng. “That means everything, because I always know I could do it. But it’s different that you know you can and that you show it. Today, I really show it. I’m so proud of myself. I am so proud for my country. I feel right now my mental is in another level.”

In the men’s singles draw, Novak Djokovic and Carlos Alcaraz remain on course for a meeting in the final, with Djokovic to face Lorenzo Musetti and Alcaraz taking on Felix Auger-Aliassime in the semifinals on Friday. Meanwhile, Andy Murray contested the last match of his career with Taylor Fritz and Tommy Paul overcoming Murray and Dan Evans in the men’s doubles quarterfinals.
