Carlos Taberner and Vilius Gaubas will compete in Sunday’s singles final of the Serena Wines 1881 – Acqua Maniva Tennis Cup in Cordenons. Taberner defeated Belgian teenager Alexander Blockx 6-3, 6-4 in the stage of the last four on Saturday.

The 26-year-old from Spain converted five of his 10 break-point opportunities and won 56 per cent of the total poinst played to secure victory in one hour and 51 minutes.

Taberner is seeking his seventh ATP Challenger Tour career title, his first of the season, against No. 4 seed Gaubas. The 221st-ranked Lithuanian benefited from the retirement of Andrew Paulson of the Czech Republic. The 19-year-old Gaubas was leading 7-5 when Paulson was forced to stop playing due to an abdominal injury. Following four triumphs on the ITF World Tennis Tour, Gaubas could lift his maiden Challenger trophy.

Later in the day, Paulson withdrew from the doubles final alongside his compatriot Jiri Barnat. No. 2 seeds Marco Bortolotti of Italy and Australian Matthew Christopher Romios were crowned doubles champions without hitting a ball in the final. They split € 4,250 in prize money and collected 75 ATP Doubles Ranking points.
