STARNBERG, August 13, 2024

In one of the most thrilling title battles in the history of the Tennis Channel Bundesliga, TC Großhesselohe has won the German Team Championship title for the first time on Sunday. On the final match day, the team from Bavaria secured a 4-0 victory against FTC Palmengarten, who, along with TC Augsburg Siebentisch, were relegated.

“The season was nothing short of dramatic, offering tennis fans everything that makes the strongest league in the world so exciting,” remarked DTB President Dietloff von Arnim. A former member of the new German champion club, he added, “I congratulate TC Großhesselohe on their first German Team Championship title. The team played its best tennis at crucial moments and deservedly won after nine match days. Celebrating their first championship since the club’s founding in 1925 is a testament to the consistently good work being done there.”

Tension until the final point

On the final day, alongside TC Großhesselohe, Team Marc O’Polo Rosenheim, Kurhaus Lambertz Aachen, and TC Bredeney also had chances to win the title. TC Großhesselohe and Rosenheim were tied with 11:5 points. With the advantage of more matches won, TC Großhesselohe entered the decisive match day and capitalized on it. They secured the title after the singles matches. Austrian Lukas Neumayer delivered the decisive match point by winning the fourth singles match against Calvin Hemery 6-1, 0-6, 11-9. The doubles matches were not played.

“The championship is something very special for everyone at the club, just before the 100th anniversary of our founding. The team played a fantastic season,” said TCG Bundesliga sports director Bernard Eßmann. Team manager Christopher Kas was also overjoyed after the victory, saying, “It was a great team performance this season. A lot has developed within our team over the last few years.”

TC Großhesselohe’s victory over FTC Palmengarten also sealed the fate of the Frankfurt team, who finished the season in 9th place, resulting in their relegation. The battle at the bottom of the table was as intense as at the top – five teams were in danger of relegation on the final day. Only the direct relegation of the newly promoted TC Augsburg Siebentisch was confirmed after the penultimate match day on Friday.

Many tennis fans watched live – On-site or via stream

Thousands of spectators on the venues contributed to a special atmosphere this season. At the match between Mannheim and Rosenheim, 3,400 fans attended to witness Dominic Thiem‘s last appearance for Mannheim.

The proximity to the players at the club venues is unique and cannot be experienced at any tournament. Playing in a team setting is a welcome change from the usual tour routine for both players and fans. The strongest league in the world was not only experienced on-site but also streamed live by the Tennis Channel, broadcasting all matches.
