Four German players were in second-round action on Thursday at the NÖ Open powered by EVN but only one advanced to the quarterfinals of the ATP Challenger Tour 100 clay-court tournament in Tulln, Austria.

Max Rehberg, who battled through the qualifying, edged past Luka Mikrut of Croatia 6-0, 3-6, 6-1. The 20-year-old Munich native converted six of his 14 break-point opportunities to secure victory in one hour and 40 minutes.

Up next for Rehberg will be Briton Jan Choinski, who was a 7-6(2), 6-7(6), 7-5 winner over German Marvin Moeller in two hours and 55 minutes, the longest encounter of the day.

Russian qualifier Ivan Gakhov continued his good run of form this week by beating Marko Topo of Germany 7-6(7), 6-2. The World No. 298 struck six aces and won 72 per cent of his first-service points to prevail after one hour and 35 minutes.

Gakhov will next play Czech alternate Jakub Nicod, who defeated Daniel Masur of Germany 7-6(8), 6-0 in one hour and 35 minutes to reach his first quarterfinal on the ATP Challenger Tour.
