Jannik Sinner is the champion of the 2024 US Open. The World No. 1 defeated No. 12 seed Taylor Fritz from the United States 6-3, 6-4, 7-5 in Sunday’s singles final.

In front of a packed Arthur Ashe crowd, Sinner withstood 10 aces and broke his rival’s serve six times to succeed in two hours and 16 minutes.

Sinner captured his second Grand Slam title of the year after winning the Australian Open in January. The 23-year-old has gone from strength to strength on the hard courts this season and it ends just how it started. Sinner has lost just twice in 38 outings on this surface over the course of the year.

“I know how much work Taylor puts in, you are doing an amazing job and congratulations to you. It’s nice to see him on big stages like this and I know he will be in these games again. Good luck for the future,” said Sinner during the on-court ceremony.

“This title means so much because the last period of my career was not easy. My team have supported me every day and thank you to the people who are close to me,” he added.

“I want to say thanks to my team, my coach Mike, Wolf, Morgan, my parents are here, my whole team it’s amazing to have such a great support system around me, they really make this possible,” said Fritz, who was aiming to become first US-American man since Andy Roddick in 2003 to win a Grand Slam singles title.

“Being an American at the US Open is just incredible, feeling the love all week. Thank you so much. I know we have been waiting for a champion for a long time so I’m sorry I couldn’t get it done this time but I’m going to keep working and hopefully I’ll get it done next time so thank you.”
