OBERPFULLENDORF/STARNBERG, September 23, 2024
Top seeds Teodora Kostovic of Serbia and Luca Preda of Romania were crowned winners of the MEHRLEBEN U18 European Junior Tennis Championships powered by Finanzfuchsgruppe, scoring routine wins over Alena Kovackova from the Czech Republic and Italian Jacopo Vasami respectively in Sunday’s singles finals.
Kostovic’s 6-1 6-0 win took just 54 minutes, and produced the most one-sided girls’ final in the history of the event. The 17-year-old became the first Serbian champion of the 18 & Under category.
Preda became the first Romanian winner of the boys’ title. Romanian girls have triumphed on three occasions. The win marks his second singles win of the season, adding to his ITF World Tennis Tour J500 title in Cairo. The 18-year-old also reached the quarterfinals at the US Open Juniors last month.
A total of 128 players from 35 Tennis Europe member nations took part in the tournament. This was the first edition of the tournament at its new home of Oberpullendorf in Burgenland Region, Austria. Austria previously hosted the event from 2007-2009.
