Team Europe won its fifth Laver Cup title at the Uber Arena in Berlin, Germany on Sunday with a nail-biting 13-11 victory over Team World.

World No.3 Carlos Alcaraz sealed the win for Europe with a 6-2 7-5 win over Taylor Fritz to clinch the trophy. The 21-year-old Spaniard withstood seven aces and broke Fritz’s serve three times to prevail after one hour and 29 minutes.

“It’s great. Obviously we came here with a goal, to win the Laver Cup,” said Alcaraz in his on-court interview. “We are very, very happy about reaching our goal. We almost lost, but Sascha came with really good tennis and gave me the chance to win.”

Alcaraz has managed eight points for Team Europe during the 2024 edition of the Laver Cup, it is the most points a player has earned for his team in a single edition of the event.

Zverev fights past Tiafoe

Alexander Zverev battled past Frances Tiafoe 6-7(5) 7-5 10-5 forcing Laver Cup Berlin to a decisive final match. Zverev and Tiafoe have now played five Laver Cups, the most of any player.

Earlier, Ben Shelton defeated Daniil Medvedev 6-7(6) 7-5 10-7 in the first meeting of the pair’s career.

Alcaraz and Casper Ruud earned the doubles victory at the start of the day when they defeated Shelton and Tiafoe 6-2 7-6(6).

For the third time in its seven-year history, the Laver Cup was decided by the final match on the Day 3 schedule. Team Europe now leads the Laver Cup head-to-head 5-2.

“It’s always tough to play Team World at Laver Cup,” said Europe’s team captain Bjorn Borg. “You’ve seen good tennis this week and I thought that we weren’t going to win it, but the guys played great tennis and we came through. For me to spend time with these players in Team Europe, it’s a lot of fun. We have a good team spirit and we gave everything. I’m very proud of my team.”

Over 60,000 fans attended Laver Cup 2024 at Uber Arena in Berlin with thousands more taking in the atmosphere in the Laver Cup Fan Zone on Uber Platz.
