STARNBERG, September 28, 2024 (via WADA Press Release)
The World Anti-Doping Agency (WADA) confirmed that on Thursday, 26 September, it filed an appeal with the Court of Arbitration for Sport (CAS) in the case of Italian tennis player Jannik Sinner. An independent tribunal of the International Tennis Integrity Agency (ITIA) had previously determined that Sinner bore no fault or negligence after testing positive for clostebol, a prohibited substance, on two occasions in March 2024.
WADA disagrees with the tribunal’s finding of “no fault or negligence” and is seeking a suspension of one to two years. However, WADA is not seeking the disqualification of any results beyond those already imposed by the initial tribunal.
As the case is now before CAS, WADA will not provide any further comments at this time.
