Pedro Martinez has clinched the title of the Copa Faulcombridge by Marcos Automocion in Valencia, Spain. The top seed of the ATP Challenger Tour 125 clay-court event defeated Jaime Faria of Portugal 6-1, 6-3 in Sunday’s singles final.
Martinez, who entered his home tournament with a wild card, didn’t drop a set the entire week. The 27-year-old Alzira native beat US-American Emilio Nava, French teenager Arthur Gea, Ignacio Buse of Peru and No. 4 seed Daniel Elahi Galan from Colombia en route to the championship match.
The World No. 45 converted six of his 14 break-point chances and won 59 per cent of the total points played to prevail after one hour and 32 minutes.

Martinez claimed his seventh ATP Challenger Tour career title, his second of the season following his triumph in Catalonia at the Eurofirms Girona – Costa Brava in late March. He earned € 20,300 in prize money as well as 125 ATP Ranking points. Martinez is projected to reach a new career-high ranking of World No. 38 on Monday.
Merino/Negritu capture doubles title
In Saturday’s doubles final, Peruvian Alexander Merino and German Christoph Negritu claimed the title. The alternates beat the all-Polish combination of Karol Drzewiecki and Piotr Matuszewski 6-3, 6-4 in one hour and nine minutes.
Merino and Negrito earned their sixth team title of the season, their third at Challenger level following their triumphs in Dobrich, Bulgaria and Sibiu, Romania. They split €8,450 in prize money and collected 125 ATP Doubles Ranking points.
The third edition of the Copa Faulcombridge by Marcos Automocion offered a total prize pool of €148,625 and was hosted by the Club De Tenis Valencia with former Top 40 player Pablo Andujar serving as the tournament director.
