Former World No. 2 Paula Badosa has officially joined the player field for the 2025 Credit One Charleston Open, joining a growing list of top contenders that includes current WTA Top 10 players Jessica Pegula (World No. 4) and Emma Navarro (World No. 8).

Currently ranked World No. 14, the 26-year-old New York-born Spaniard captured her fourth WTA Tour title this year at the Mubadala Citi DC Open in a season that included reaching the US Open quarterfinals and the Cincinnati Open semifinals. Badosa also was a quarterfinalist in Bad Homburg,  a semifinalist at Beijing and Ningbo and reached the fourth round at Wimbledon.

Badosa ended her 2024 season with a 37-18 win-loss record after recently withdrawing from the Tokyo Open due to an injury. She will be returning to the South Carolina Lowcountry for the fifth consecutive year in 2025.

The Credit One Charleston Open, the largest women’s-only professional tennis tournament in North America, will be celebrating its 25th year in Charleston in 2025. Recognized as the WTA 500 Tournament of the Year in 2022 and 2023, it is the WTA’s annual kickoff to the spring clay season. The nine-day 2025 event will be held from March 29 to April 6 at Credit One Stadium on Daniel Island in Charleston, South Carolina.

“We’re excited to welcome Paula Badosa back to the Credit One Charleston Open. She joins a fantastic lineup of talent for next year’s tournament, showcasing the best of women’s tennis,” said Bob Moran, President of Beemok Sports & Entertainment, in a statement. “Paula’s remarkable journey this season has captured the hearts of fans, and we look forward to seeing her in action again in Charleston.”

Badosa has compiled a 9-4 win-loss record in her four previous appearances in Charleston. She reached the 2021 semifinals and was a quarterfinalist in 2022 and 2023.

“I’m really looking forward to returning to Charleston in 2025,” said Badosa, in a statement. “This tournament means so much to me, especially with my past results there. I feel healthy and strong again, and I’m excited to build on the momentum from this season as I get ready to compete in Charleston again.”
