TURIN/STARNBERG, November 15, 2024

Alexander Zverev of Germany extended his winning streak to eight matches with a commanding 7-6(5), 6-4 victory on Friday over Spaniard Carlos Alcaraz at the Nitto ATP Finals in Turin. Facing Alcaraz for the first time since their dramatic five-set encounter in the Roland Garros final, Zverev delivered a focused and clinical performance in one hour and 57 minutes.

The win not only secured his place in the semi-finals but also guaranteed he will finish the season ranked World No. 2, capping off a stellar end to his 2024 campaign.

“He beat me too many times this year in important matches, so I’m happy that I got this one,” said Zverev after his triumph. “Obviously I feel like we have a pretty good rivalry with a great friendship as well, so it’s always nice to play against him… Just sharing the court with him. He’s a great guy and I’m looking forward to the next matches with him as well.”

Zverev finishes atop of John Newcombe Group facing US-American Taylor Fritz in the stage of the last four.

In the second semi-final Saturday, World No. 1 Jannik Sinner will take on Casper Ruud. It will be the pair’s third meeting on the ATP Tour.

“I know what I have achieved during this year, so I try to step on court with a good mindset,” said Sinner. “I have beautiful people around me who support me daily, which for me is really important. I try to enjoy my time on the court. The atmosphere here is amazing, so I’m just trying to play some good tennis this week.”
