ROTTERDAM, December 13, 2024 (Press Release)

Holger Rune, former World No. 4, has confirmed his participation in the 2025 ABN AMRO Open. The Dane, the best player on the ATP Tour aged 21 or younger after Carlos Alcaraz, will compete in Rotterdam for the third time. The 52nd edition of the tournament will be held from February 1 to 9, 2025, at Rotterdam Ahoy.

Tournament Director Richard Krajicek said: “Holger Rune has been competing at the top of the ATP rankings for two years now. It’s easy to forget that he’s only 21 years old. Recently, he mentioned his ambition to return to the top 5 in 2025. It would be fantastic if the ABN AMRO Open plays a part in achieving that goal.”

Four Titles

Holger Rune has already claimed four ATP titles. Last year, he won the tournament in Munich and reached the finals of the ATP 1000 tournaments in Rome and Monte Carlo, briefly climbing to No. 4 in the ATP rankings. In 2024, he reached the finals in Brisbane and slightly dropped to his current position of No. 13 in the ATP rankings. Still, he remains the best player in the world aged 21 or younger after Carlos Alcaraz. Rune is part of a new generation of players in their early 20s taking over from the previous generation.

“Rune is a player who can challenge anyone. He has already defeated every current top-10 player at least once, which makes him one of the title favorites in Rotterdam,” Krajicek said.

Player Field

With six players from the world’s top 10, the competition for the title in Rotterdam is fierce. Jannik Sinner (No. 1), Carlos Alcaraz (3), Daniil Medvedev (5), Andrey Rublev (8), Alex de Minaur (9), and Grigor Dimitrov (10) have already been announced. Additionally, Dutch players Tallon Griekspoor and Botic van de Zandschulp have confirmed their participation in the 2025 ABN AMRO Open.
