Tennis Australia Press Release, December 19, 2024
Families are in for a fun-filled start to the Australian Open 2025, with 5000 free Hot Shots racquets set to be handed out during Opening Week, presented by Herald Sun. From January 6-10, 2025, thousands of kids will have the chance to grab their very own Hot Shots racquet and take their first step into the world of tennis.
As part of the Australian Open Opening Week celebrations, 5000 Hot Shots racquets will be handed out to young fans at the Fan Stage on Grand Slam Oval, with two daily sessions, making it easier than ever for families to get involved.
“We want to make tennis a sport that every family can enjoy, and there’s no better way to do that than by giving kids the chance to take home their own Hot Shots racquet,” said Tennis Australia Chief Tennis Officer Tom Larner.
“By offering these 5000 racquets during Opening Week, we’re giving families even more value from their ticket, while also making tennis more accessible for the next generation.”
“We’ve seen how sport can bring people together, and this is our chance to ensure the next generation of fans has the tools they need to get started. It’s about more than just racquets, it’s about inspiring kids to fall in love with tennis, to develop healthy habits, and to enjoy the fun of the game,” he added.
Hot Shots Tennis has been refreshed, offering a program designed to be more fun, engaging, and accessible for kids of all ages. Whether a child is just starting out or looking to refine their skills, Hot Shots makes tennis exciting and easy to learn. With modified courts, kid-friendly equipment, and an emphasis on both play and life skills, the program aims to nurture confident, active young players.
Top international and Australian tennis players will attend the daily Hot Shots racquet giveaway sessions, providing fans with a rare opportunity to interact with some of the sport’s best talents. Initiatives like the Hot Shots racquet giveaway underscores the AO’s dedication to bridging the gap between grassroots participation and Grand Slam-level tennis, highlighting Tennis Australia’s commitment to fostering growth and connection across all levels of the game.
“Tennis Australia has always been a leader in growing sport at the grassroots level, and this initiative is just one example of how we’re supporting families and kids,” said Larner.
“We want to continue to build a vibrant tennis community, and by putting racquets into kids’ hands at the Australian Open, we’re encouraging them to pick up the sport, have fun, and create lasting memories.”
In addition to the Hot Shots racquet giveaway, families can enjoy a packed program of exciting events throughout Opening Week. Tickets start from just $15 for adults and $10 for kids, offering incredible value for fans.
Opening Week is all about bringing fans closer to the sport, and this year’s Hot Shots racquet giveaway is just one of many exciting ways to get involved. Whether you’re exploring the AO grounds, watching the world’s best players in action, or picking up your very own racquet, there’s something for everyone.
