Fonseca Claims Canberra International Title

Joao Fonseca has celebrated a perfect start into the new season by winning the title of the 2025 Workday Canberra International. The 18-year-old Brazilian defeated US-American qualifier Ethan Quinn 6-4, 6-4 in Saturday’s singles final of the ATP Challenger Tour 125 hard-court event.

Fonseca advanced to the championship match with wins in the bottom half of the draw over Mackenzie McDonald from the United States, Duje Ajdukovic of Croatia, Frenchman Harold Mayot and sixth-seeded Briton Jacob Fearnley.

The World No. 145 hit seven aces and won 89 per cent of his first-service points. Fonseca broke Quinn’s serve two times to secure victory in one hour and 12 minutes.

Fonseca, a former Junior World No. 1 and champion of the 2024 Next Gen ATP Finals in Jeddah, lifted his second career trophy on the Challenger Circuit following his triumph in Lexington, United States last season. He earned $28,400 in prize money as well as 125 ATP Ranking points.

The ninth edition of the Workday Canberra International ATP Challenger offered a total prize pool of $168,100 and was hosted by the Canberra Tennis Centre.
