NOTTINGHAM, June 12, 2016

Top seed Karolina Pliskova claimed the title of the $250,000 WTA International Aegon Open in Nottingham, winning Sunday’s final against Alison Riske 7-6, 7-5.

The world number 17 sent down 14 aces, securing 84% of her first service points. She converted four of her eight break point chances to prevail in one hour and 54 minutes.

Pliskova lifted her fifth career trophy, taking away $43,000 in prize money as well as 280 WTA ranking points.

“It was not an easy match, she also deserved to win and it was down to a few points. I am really happy that made it and closed it out in two sets.

“I am really happy and my week couldn’t have been better. I have been coming here a few years, I know the city pretty well and it’s my first time wining the trophy here so I enjoyed it,” Pliskova said.

Riske added: “It was a brutal match and congratulations to Karolina. She played so well! Thanks to everyone who came to watch and for a great week.

“It has been a great couple of weeks and I always love coming to the grass and England. I love coming to Nottingham and back here. I think it is my eighth year!”

Later the day, Andrea Hlavackova and Shuai Peng claimed the doubles title with a 7-5, 3-6, 10-7 victory over Gabriela Dabrowski and Zhaoxuan Yang in one hour and 31 minutes.
