Juan Carlos Prado Angelo and Mark Whitehouse were crowned doubles champions of the inaugural CRETE Challenger LYTTOS 1 being held on the hard courts of the Lyttos Beach Hotel in Hersonissos, Crete.
The Bolivian-British combination, who started into the ATP Challenger Tour 50 tournament as alternates, defeated Austrian Dennis Novak and Zsombor Piros of Hungary 7-6(7), 6-2 in Saturday’s final. Prado Angelo and Whitehouse capitalized on five of their 10 break-point chances to prevail after one hour and 21 minutes.
The 20-year-old Prado Angelo, a former Junior World No. 1 in singles and runner-up at 2023 Roland Garros, and the 31-year-old Whitehouse both earned their first title on the ATP Challenger Tour. They split €2,680 in prize money and collected 50 ATP Doubles Ranking points.
Following the award ceremony, Apostolos Tsitsipas held a special honorary presentation to Pantelis Sapounakis, recognizing his outstanding contribution in hosting the first ATP Challenger Lyttos Beach at his world-class facilities. His generous hospitality and the high-quality sports venue played a crucial role in the tournament’s successful organization.
In Sunday’s singles final, No. 4 seed Edas Butvilas of Lithuania will take on British qualifier Stuart Parker. The pair will meet for the first time.
