One set separated second seed, 20-year-old Split native Mili Poljicak (ATP 293), from his first singles final at the Istarska Rivijera, but standing in his way was 30-year-old Bosnian Nerman Fatic (ATP 398), who will battle Austrian Sandro Kopp for the winner’s trophy at the ITF World Tennis Tour M15 tournament at Porec Tennis Center Pical on Sunday.

Fatic made a comeback victory over Poljicak, defeating the Croatian player 3-6, 6-3, 6-1. Last year’s champion Sandro Kopp (ATP 357) prevented an all-Bosnian final with a dominant 6-1, 6-2 win over Andrej Nedic (ATP 554).

When Poljicak won the first set 6-3 and opened the second with a break, everything seemed to indicate that the Split native was on his way to his first final at the Istarska Rivijera tournament series. However, his third attempt, following semifinal losses in Rovinj and Opatija last year, did not end happily.

A bit of bad luck, but even more so a determined opponent who refused to give up, left Poljicak without a place in the singles final. Fatic won 12 of the last 15 games, securing his second final this year and the 17th overall in his career on the ITF World Tour. It is also his second final at the Istarska Rivijera, where he lost the title match in Opatija in 2019.

Kopp will also play in his second final this year and the 12th overall in his career. The Austrian will try to defend his title in Porec, aiming for his sixth ITF World Tennis Tour trophy, while Fatic will seek his ninth title at this level.
